A scholar of Judaism who retired in 1981 as senior rabbi of Congregation B'nai Jeshurun in Short Hills. He became spiritual leader at Congregation B'nai Jeshurun in 1947. Founded in Newark in 1848, it is the oldest Jewish congregation in New Jersey.

Rabbi Joachim Prince
Was a German-American rabbi who was outspoken against Nazism and became an American Jewish leader. As a young rabbi in Berlin, he was forced to confront the rise of Nazism, and eventually emigrated to the United States in 1937. He was the spiritual leader of Temple B'nai Abraham in Newark. A participant in the 1963 Civil Rights March on Washington.

He served from 1940 to 1972 as the rabbi of Congregation Oheb Shalom. He established a university of adult Jewish studies at the synagogue.
