OBJECTIVE / ACCOUNTABILITY

To be responsible for the growing (propagation) process in the assigned area; this includes planning and reporting, team participation and support, inventory responsibilities, equipment, and facility maintenance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Production/Growing:

• Irrigation:
  1. Have knowledge of how to use the area’s pump stations including pumps, sand filters, and fertilizer injectors.
  2. Responsible for the proper use of irrigation controllers or manual valves in your area.
  3. Execute the practice of irrigation and fertilization in the assigned growing area.
  4. Scouting is occurring on a daily basis to determine when to water and how much.
  5. E.C. tests and Leachate Fractions are used in deciding when to irrigate/fertilize and are reported to your supervisor.
  6. When fertilizing, ensure we are mixing properly, using the correct recipe, and applying during the right conditions.
  7. If area has drip irrigation, that drip lines and stakes are consistently being upkept to ensure optimal growing conditions.
  8. Ensure that filters inside of the shelters are being cleaned regularly to regulate a consistent pressure.
• Potting:
  1. Assist supervisor ensuring potting area is prepped with gravel and has been sanitized of weeds and disease.
  2. Assist supervisor ensuring that crops with similar needs are being potted in the correct location.
• Shade:
  1. Assist with putting shade cloth on or removing when needed.
• Pruning:
  1. Following correct heights and widths when pruning.
  2. Ensure pruning tools are being sanitized when necessary.
• Covering/Uncovering:
  1. Assist with winter covering processes, frost protection, movement of plants to minimal heat in the fall, and removal in the spring.
  2. Assist with uncovering process including organizing poly, lath, supplies for the following season.
  3. Winter Checks:
     • Ensure there is sufficient bait in the shelters over winter months and re-apply as needed.
     • Execute venting in shelters if needed for the crops.
     • Regularly check soil moisture inside of the shelters and irrigate plants if required.
• Plant Health:
  1. Scout for disease, pests, weeds; notify the supervisor any issues.
  2. Coordinate with Plant Health to ensure irrigation does not interfere with sprays.
• Inventory:
  1. Communicate with supervisor of significant crop losses or quality issues.
  2. Attach and maintain crop identification labels.
  3. Participate in Physical Inventory of assigned area.
  4. Complete and update loss reports and change of locations.
  5. Ensure plants are not mixed and un-mix crops that are.
• Additional duties as assigned.

Area Responsibility:

• Clearly communicate work plans with your supervisor daily.
• Complete paperwork in a timely manner:
  1. Change of Location/Loss reports within 24 hours.
• Maintain applicable records:
  1. Recording E.C. tests and Leachate fractions and giving them to your supervisor.

Equipment/Facilities/Safety:

• Maintain a safe, organized, and clean working environment.
• Ensure you are using proper PPE when necessary.
• Inform supervisor of repairs or preventative maintenance that is needed on equipment of buildings in your area.
• Operate all equipment and facilities properly.
• Ensure that all emergency backups are operational at all times.
• Responsible for maintaining a clean growing center, pump station, and container storage area in assigned area.
• Check oil, fluids, service hours/miles and grease needed equipment in your assigned area.
• Maintain stock beds and landscape in area through irrigation, fertilization, weeding, and pruning.
• Ensure offices, lunchrooms, bathrooms, and garages are kept clean and tidy.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

• 3-5 years of general nursery experience.
• Ability to make quick decisions in pressure situations.
• Good organizational skills.
• Ability to take instructions and follow through.
• Ability to work with diverse team.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Ability to work in all weather conditions.
• Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time.
• Ability to safely lift/push/pull 50 lbs.
• Ability to work beyond 40 hours per week as needed.
• Available to work weekends and holidays as needed.
