Job Title: Category Manager Job Location: San Antonio, TX System One Perks: Weekly pay, benefits & 401k Work Schedule: Monday - Friday: 7:00am - 4:00pm or 8:00am - 5:00pm (Subject to Change) Category: Professional (Procurement) Job Description: The Category Manager role will establish and implement third-party Category Management strategies and solutions with the intent to obtain best value in support of enterprise needs. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of managing complex supply chain engagements, fostering relationships with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), and providing expertise and insights into industry trends, sourcing best practices, and supplier performance optimization. This is a strategic, hands-on sourcing role , not transactional purchasing. This position requires demonstrated sourcing expertise, not just PO processing experience. Responsibilities: Efficiently execute and coordinate strategic sourcing events and act as a subject matter expert to Supply Chain Specialists by providing strategic guidance throughout the lifecycle of assigned categories Build effective Category Strategies through internal utilization analysis, external benchmarking, cost model development, and opportunity assessments Align pricing strategies with estimating, proposal, and sourcing teams, including the development of pricing models, risk mitigation plans, and indexing strategies Develop and manage category spend data and demand forecasts using reporting tools and data sources Monitor market and industry trends to proactively identify cost optimization, risk reduction, and service delivery improvements Collaborate closely with engineering teams to interpret technical specifications and support sourcing of engineered/custom equipment (e.g., turbines, pumps, compressors, MCCs, PLCs ) Manage supplier relationships, including escalation handling and resolution of issues impacting category execution Support the development of performance metrics and KPIs for strategic suppliers Establish internal guidelines to support category strategy execution and ensure compliance Drive Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) initiatives and influence vendor performance Deliver executive-level communication and support change management efforts through new processes and training Maintain expertise in procurement applications such as Oracle, PPMS, and other enterprise systems Qualifications: ~ Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred ~5–7 years of experience in capital project or industrial procurement roles, ideally within EPC, power, or refinery environments ~ Hands-on experience sourcing engineered or custom equipment (e.g., turbines, pumps, compressors, MCCs, PLCs) ~ Strong understanding of category strategy, MSAs, cost modeling, and supplier management ~ Ability to read and interpret technical specs/drawings and collaborate cross-functionally with engineering teams ~ Proficient in Contract Management, Contract Administration, and Contract Negotiation ~ Strong data analysis skills with experience in commodity pricing and cost modeling ~ Experience supporting multi-year, large-scale capital projects ~ Preferred experience across multiple industrial market sectors and working alongside engineering or client-facing teams System One, and its subsidiaries including Joulé, ALTA IT Services, and Mountain Ltd., are leaders in delivering outsourced services and workforce solutions across North America.
