Job Description

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: The Class A Heavy Haul Truck Driver will be responsible for transporting oversize and overweight equipment to the job sites. The drivers will be exposed to different situations and equipment in performing their assigned task and are responsible for maintaining their assigned equipment. Heavy travel will be required

  • Secure loads to bed of truck, trailer, etc.
  • Local/Long distance hauling of supplies
  • May be responsible for driving a combination of equipment: tractor/lowboy trailer, tractor/flatbed, tractor/over-sized/overweight tow equipment, dry vans, etc.
  • Assist with loading and unloading of oversized/overweight equipment and ensure that all loads are properly prepared, loaded, and secured before the vehicle proceeds to avoid shifting, loosening, or falling while in route; perform a thorough pre- and post-check to inspect the load and truck before and after each stop
  • Operate tandem dump trucks to deliver or move construction materials
  • Perform general duties associated with loading, unloading, and maintaining vehicle
  • Perform basic trouble shooting and make minor repairs
  • Perform daily commercial vehicle inspections to include documentation
  • Complete vehicle inspection reports, log book, and individual vehicle mileage records meeting all DOT and company record keeping requirement


General Standards set by R.C. Construction for Truck Drivers:

  • Check the following before operation
    • Fluid levels
    • Drive belt
    • Tires


  • Perform the assigned task below during the operation
    • Use the clutch to engage & disengage the PTO
    • Obey all posted speed limits
    • Keep the inside of the truck neat and clean
    • Always keep ID's and personal passes on your person


  • Complete the following after operation
    • Drain air tanks
    • Wash all concrete off the truck and trailer





JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Valid Class A CDL with no restrictions. Optional Doubles/Triples, and Tanker endorsements or the ability to obtain endorsements.
  • Valid DOT Medical Card
  • Must have an insurance approved MVR
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain security clearance to access military bases
  • Must have reliable method of transportation to and from the jobsite
  • A pre-employment drug screen is required by FMCSA
  • Be able to provide valid documentation for the I-9 Immigration document
  • Working knowledge and understanding of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Association's regulations and state regulations regarding operating a commercial vehicle.
  • Knowledge and previous experience in towing tandem/triple axle trailers and tow-able construction equipment safely - is preferred.
  • Basic Computer Skills Required (Email, Smart Phone, Excel, Electronic Logs)

  • Ability to climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Ability to talk and hear
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds or more
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus


WORK ENVIROMENT

  • This position requires working outdoors and driving in extreme heat/cold and possibly rainy weather. Work locations may be subject to high winds, heavy rain, or snow. As well as extremely high and low temperatures depending on the season.
