Job Description

Rockland Trust is seeking an experienced Environmental Risk Analyst to join our growing risk team. This strategic advisory role will be responsible for assessing environmental risks associated with commercial real estate–backed lending and shaping how the Bank navigates environmental considerations during loan origination.

This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned environmental professional with deep consulting experience—particularly in site assessment, remediation, and regulatory compliance—who is ready to bring that expertise to a dynamic financial institution.

What You'll Do

  • Lead environmental due diligence reviews for commercial real estate transactions, ensuring compliance with internal standards and applicable regulations.
  • Provide expert risk analysis and guidance to relationship managers, underwriters, and credit officers across the Bank’s lending divisions.
  • Review Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments and remediation reports for accuracy, completeness, and alignment with ASTM standards and applicable regulations.
  • Collaborate with environmental consultants, legal counsel, and borrowers to clarify technical issues and support timely deal execution.
  • Maintain and enhance internal environmental risk management policies, procedures, and qualified consultant lists.
  • Stay current on evolving federal, state, and local environmental regulations, and assess their impact on real estate collateral risk.
  • Support continuous improvement of the Bank’s environmental risk framework and take part in special projects or initiatives led by the Environmental Risk Manager.

Must-Have Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Geology, or a related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of professional experience administering environmental investigations, risk management, and loss prevention programs with an environmental consulting firm, lender, property management firm, or environmental insurance company protecting that organization’s or clients’ commercial real estate activities and assets.
  • Extensive hands-on involvement in Phase I and Phase II assessments and site remediation projects.
  • Strong working knowledge of ASTM due diligence standards, U.S. environmental regulations (e.g., CERCLA, RCRA), and state environmental regulations throughout New England.
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical findings to non-technical stakeholders and influence decision-making in a business context.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience assessing environmental risks for a bank, financial institution, or real estate lender.
  • Familiarity with risk rating systems, environmental liability risk frameworks, and vendor management processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
