GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:
This is a part-time position, (20 hrs/wk, year-round) located on the Estherville Campus. Under the supervision of the Director of Academic Success, the Library Assistant will exhibit excellent service to students, perform circulation desk tasks, prepare reports, and assist in processing new materials. Work includes morning hours and some extended days.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (% OF THE TIME):

- Assist students and staff in accessing information in both print and electronic resources.
* Process new books and assist with removing outdated books from the collections.
* Assist patrons to check-out books using automated library system, and retrieve information necessary for circulation records.
* Process interlibrary loan requests and keep accurate records of these transactions.
* Track and gather weekly/monthly circulation records.
* Enforce library rules for proper conduct as needed.
* Prepare and send overdue notices to patrons.
* Prepare reports and billings as needed.
* Assist in budget or inventory related work as advised by the Director.
* Answer telephone inquiries and general student questions. Frequent (34-66%)* - Assist with data input for processing new materials.
* Process student ID's and Library Cards.
* Assist with book and equipment inventory. * - Occasional (10-33%)*
- Report repairs or maintenance needed on Library equipment and computers. * Prepare circulation reports for annual report. * Assist in the supervision and training of work study students. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: * Proficiency in or ability to learn all library online resources, automated library system, Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook in order to assist patrons.
* Strong telephone communication skills.
* Be willing and able to represent the College in the most positive manner with students, staff, and the general public.
* Operate standard office equipment: computer, typewriter, copier, calculator, etc.
* Read and understand written and oral instructions.
* Must be able to spell correctly and use proper grammar in written communications.
* Ability to effectively communicate with students, staff, and the public.
* Meet and deal with students and staff in a professional manner.
* Ability to work effectively in an atmosphere of frequent interruptions. SPECIAL DEMANDS: Sedentary to medium work. Position involves standing, walking, and sitting with frequent changes from one position to another; exerting up to 40 pound of force occasionally (10-33%). Occasional climbing, balancing, and kneeling. Frequent stooping, crouching, reaching, handling, pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying (34-66%). Will travel to other campuses as needed. May be required to travel utilizing personal vehicle. Must have a valid driver's license, good driving record and provide proof of insurance. Employment with Iowa Lakes Community College is dependent upon successful passage of a criminal background check. Must be legally eligible to work in the United States without employer sponsorship. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Associate's degree preferred; library experience in a public, academic or school setting or secretarial/clerical experience for a period of no less than six months in addition to minimum educational requirements preferred.
