The Staff Psychiatrist at the VA San Francisco Health Care System provides inpatient psychiatric care to veterans, including evaluations, treatment, and participation in interventional psychiatry such as Ketamine and ECT therapies. The role includes supervising psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, and UCSF trainees, as well as collaborating with an interdisciplinary team to deliver high-quality mental health services. Join our Team at the Department of Veterans Medical Center, San Francisco, CA as a Physician – Psychiatry!

The staff physician (psychiatry) is assigned to the VA San Francisco Health Care System (VASFHCS), Mental Health Service, providing comprehensive, efficient, compassionate, high quality healthcare to all patients, functioning as a member of the inter-disciplinary team providing clinical care to the patients at VASFHCS. As a Staff Psychiatrist, the incumbent with function primarily a clinical inpatient position within the Acute Recovery Center (inpatient hospital), providing psychiatric care to Veterans admitted into the unit including providing psychiatric evaluation and treatment in collaboration with other members of the health care team. Within this role, the incumbent also serves as an Interventional Psychiatry provider, participating with the administration of Ketamine, Electroconvulsive Treatment, and/or Transmagnetic Cranial Stimulation services to veterans at the San Francisco Veteran's Administration Healthcare System. Duties include complying with VA directives, performing staff evaluations and supervision of psychiatrists and nurse practitioners, supervision and mentorship of UCSF trainees, and serves as VA faculty back up, providing supervision for on call UCSF residents at the SFVA.

  3. Expected Salary range from $280K to $300K (negotiable based on candidate's qualifications, credentials and experience).

  1. Work Schedule: Mon-Fri, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm.
  2. Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases.
  3. Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME).
  4. Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA.
  5. Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement).
  6. Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory.
  7. CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification).
  8. Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided.
  9. Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting.
