Position Overview
A structural/civil engineering graduate with little or no relevant work experience who is responsible for the investigation, design, analysis, detailing, and specification of new buildings and structures, as well as the repair of existing structures. All work is performed under direct supervision of senior staff. Excellent communication skills, ability to work in a team, good problem solving skills, mindfulness of deadlines, and attention to detail are required. Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Essential Functions
· Prepares basic designs and performs analyses of structural components of buildings and other structures.
· Develops blueprints and specifications for use during construction.
· Ensures all projects comply with applicable codes and regulations.
· Determines cause of structural failures, damage, or defects through site investigation.
· Prepares reports detailing investigations and assessment of damage to structures.
· Administers construction contracts and coordinates elements of technical submissions prepared by others.
· Reviews and approves construction shop drawings, submittals, shoring plans, and design calculations.
· Observes installed work for conformance to design documents and directs contractor as required.
· Perform other duties and responsibilities as required, assigned, or requested.
Duties and Responsibilities
· Prepares written reports, letters, field reports, and minutes of meetings.
· Calculates, prepares, and reviews budget estimates and other related material.
· Coordinates preparation of Agency Filing applications with expeditor.
· Communicates with Contractors, Owners, and the Design Team.
Functional and Technical Competencies
· Fluency in English (Spanish a plus)
· Proficiency in AutoCAD
· Proficiency in structural analysis software (RAM, STAAD, RISA, etc.)
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including PowerPoint and Project
· Familiarity with NYS and NYC Building Codes and Local Ordinances
Education/Training and Certification, Licensure, Registration Requirements
Bachelors Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering
EIT (Engineer in Training Certification)
Experience
0-2 years
Environment and/or Physical Factors
· Must have personal transportation
· Job is occasionally physically demanding; must be able to climb stairs, ladders, scaffolding, ride hung scaffold, stand for long periods
· Must be able to tolerate heights
Desired Qualifications
· Master’s Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering
· Suspended Scaffold User Certification
· Supported Scaffold User Certification
· Excellent Communication Skills
· Exceptional Interpersonal Skills
