Job Description
Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
Job Summary:
VocoVision is seeking a qualified American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter to provide virtual interpreting services for K12 students across California public schools . This role ensures that deaf and hard of hearing students have full access to classroom instruction, communication, and participation in online learning environments.
Provide real-time ASL interpretation during virtual classroom instruction, meetings, and school events.
Interpret spoken communication from teachers and peers into ASL and voice student responses as needed.
Collaborate with teachers, special education teams, and administrators to support students communication and educational access.
Maintain strict confidentiality and comply with the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Code of Professional Conduct .
Participate in IEP meetings to advise on communication accommodations and accessibility needs.
Deliver interpreting services via secure, FERPA-compliant virtual platforms .
Complete required documentation, such as interpreting logs and service reports, in accordance with district or agency policies.
Required:
Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English .
Current or eligible California educational interpreter certification , or Board for Evaluation of Interpreters (BEI) certification recognized by the California Department of Education (CDE) .
High school diploma or GED and completion of an interpreter training program.
RID certification or EIPA score of 4.0or higher .
Proficiency with online platforms such as Zoom, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams .
Reliable high-speed internet and a professional, distraction-free home workspace .
Preferred:
Experience interpreting in California K12 educational settings .
Familiarity with California Department of Education (CDE) policies , IEP processes , and special education procedures .
Bachelors degree in Interpretation, Deaf Studies, Communication, or a related field.
This is a fully remote position . Candidates must maintain a quiet, dedicated home workspace and a reliable internet connection. All interpreting services are delivered through secure video conferencing platforms provided by VocoVision.
