Position Summary: Under the supervision of Chief Judge, assist sentencing judge in creating a workable plan for the defendant to complete probation. This includes, but is not limited to: treatment goals, community service, payment of money owned, job searches, education needs and mental health counseling. All Tribal Court staff must adhere to mandated reporting laws. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Conduct pre-sentence investigations by compiling information to provide a sentencing recommendation and accurate picture of each client's situation and needs so that the sentencing judge can pass a firm, fair and consistent ruling on each defendant. Maintain a complete and accurate record of all adults and juveniles placed on probation. Create and maintain an updated list of probation clients for the tribal police, local probation departments, and other law enforcement agencies. Develop a supportive relationship with clients and serve as a positive role model for juvenile defendants. Be on call 24/7 with law enforcement agencies to assist in probation violation status. Schedule reporting dates for each client based on the client's need; monitor progress between report dates to determine compliance or non-compliance. Be prepared to discuss the compliance or non-compliance at the scheduled report time. Work with juvenile and adult offenders that are referred into the Healing to Wellness Program, in the absence of the HTW Coordinator, maintain the program integrity, HTW client files and sit as a member of the HTW team. Maintain an extensive network of resources to provide services to clients as needed. Complete required visits to juvenile detention centers as needed.
