Job Description

Summary/Objective

The Simulator Console Operator is responsible for the system operation of B-52 aircrew training devices (ATD). Set-up and modify training scenarios and sequences for mission objectives and immediate response to instructor/trainee/inspector requirements including trainer operation and control in support of the training mission and enabling exploitation of the full training capability of the device.

Essential Functions

  • Perform simulator console system operations per contract Performance Work Statement (PWS) including ancillary duties necessary under said PWS.
  • Modify mission profiles as necessary to fulfill flight mission objectives.
  • Fulfill roles of other on-board crew members and air traffic control agencies during simulation.
  • Coordinate with maintenance technicians and other peers as necessary to accomplish training and testing of simulator devices and systems.
  • Prepare required training forms and reports as necessary to fulfill contract and business unit objectives, using Microsoft and Lotus Notes.
  • Confers with crew members regarding technical or administrative problems. Set-up individual and/or group crew training mission.
  • Perform periodic simulation system checks to ensure proper system functioning.
  • Operate each console for insertion of flight variables, mission parameters, and trainee malfunctions.

  • Perform other duties and functions as assigned by management.

Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions from oral, mathematical, narrative, or diagram form including abstract visual and concrete variables. May work independently, or with moderate to limited supervision based on experience level.

Education and Experience

Associates or undergraduate degree in electronics or related discipline or equivalent experience, plus:

  • Minimum three years former military flying experience, emphasis in the B-52 aircraft highly desired. Personal computer skills with Microsoft Office and Lotus Notes preferred.
  • Military aircraft maintenance experience may substitute for flying experience. B-52 preferred.
  • Must understand Aircraft and Weapons Systems.
  • Instructional training background preferred. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position will not have authority or responsibility for the leadership and supervision of others. 

Work Environment, Programs, and Tools
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to and may work near moving mechanical parts/or with electrical components. The employee may be exposed to moderate noise levels, vibration, or virtual motion simulations. The work environment is typically performed indoors and in a controlled climate.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
  • Employee must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time - up to 2 ½ hours per
    sitting.

  • Employee must be able to read a 15” computer monitor with or without corrected vision from a distance of 18 to 30 inches.

  • Walking / Stooping: Generally, required intermittently on a regular basis throughout the workday within a combination of office, engineering, or simulated training or quasi production settings.
  • Lifting / Bending: Generally, required intermittently throughout the workday within a combination of office, engineering, or simulated training or quasi production settings.
  • Vision (Close / Distance / Peripheral): Generally, required to work with close/peripheral vision on a regular basis. Distance vision required periodically. Ability to adjust focus.
  • Manual Dexterity: Able to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; use computer, office equipment/supplies, and related technology tools.
  • Hearing: Ability to hear oral instructions, presentations and have awareness of noise level within work setting. Noise level exposure may vary from relatively low to moderate depending on location setting and work being performed.
  • Travel: Travel locally or out of the area to conduct business/training, or conferences as required via most efficient mode of transportation as authorized

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This position will be on site and will require adherence to the Government site hours of operation. This position is a full-time hourly non-exempt position, expected to work 40 hours a week. This position may require evening/weekend work and work outside of the Government site hours of operations when Program support is needed.

Travel
Significant travel is not expected for this position.

Security Clearance
Must have an active DoD Secret Personnel Security Clearance or the ability to obtain one within the first 6-months of employment.
