Role Overview. The Freelance Proofreader and Fact Checker is an essential part of the creative team at Westfall Gold, a fundraising consultancy for non-profit organizations. The perfect candidate for this role has a deep understanding of the English language, and reveres proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation. You also have a willingness to get to know our style, and an ability to accept work from us on an ongoing basis.

Responsibilities/scope of engagement:

• We will ask you to proofread documents/design material and check facts for projects under 1,500 words within 24 hours.
• We will ask you to proofread documents/design materials and check facts for projects above 1,500 words in 2-3 days (deadlines will vary depending on scope of project).
  • Fact checking: some projects will require that you have access to a phone (calling a phone number to check that the number we're printing is correct, for example).
  • Media: Some projects will be sent to you as materials you view on your phone (apps, for example). An ability to read a QR code and provide feedback on the content on your phone is necessary.
• The amount of work we send out will vary. A light week might feature two projects. A busy week might feature ten projects or more.

Qualifications.

Experience

• 4+ years of experience in a previous proofread or editing role
• Ability to navigate a deadline-rich environment with multiple projects under competing timelines

Skills and equipment required

• Project drafts will generally come your way as Microsoft Word documents, Google documents, or PDF files, with other file types requested (websites; event apps) as needed. We ask that you capture your changes using your own Gmail address, or your own licensed version of Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat (full version; not just the Reader).
• We will look to you to invoice us on a monthly basis for all projects worked.

Education

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
